A video of two policemen mercilessly beating a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharth Nagar district has been making rounds on social media. In the video, the man’s nephew, a scared young boy, pleads as the policemen “beat, thrash and drag his uncle on the road”.

The incident occurred, when a routine vehicle check was going on by head constable Devendra Mishra of Khesraha Police Station. The man, Rinku Pandey—along with his nephew—was stopped by the policemen.

Rinku told the policemen that he was from a nearby village and was here for some work. According to eyewitnesses, the policemen started assaulting him.
Rinku’s nephew was continuously crying, he kept requesting them to stop beating him, but the policemen did not budge. Rinku begged for forgiveness, but the outpost in-charge refused to listen.

In Hindi, Rinku tells the policeman: “If it is my fault, you can lock me up in jail.”


After the incident went viral, Superintendent of Police Dharamvir Singh issued an order of investigation and suspended them.
